Overview

If you find yourself craving a nostalgic bite of classic sliders with that unmistakable touch of Southern charm, Krystal - Tyler delivers just that. Nestled conveniently at 16151 Hwy 31 W, Tyler, TX, this recent revival of the beloved chain feels like a warm return to the midnight snack culture that fans across the South have cherished for decades.

The restaurant specializes in their signature small, square sliders—steamed buns hugging juicy beef patties, usually crowned with melted cheese and finely chopped onions. These sliders are not meant to compete with today’s oversized burgers but to offer a simple, flavorful, and comforting experience that harkens back to the mid-20th century diner vibe. It's a bite-sized nostalgia trip that satisfies hunger quietly but effectively.

Early visitors noticed room for improvement, especially around the authenticity of the steamed buns and the classic onion blend cooked into the patties. However, the team at this Tyler location has shown real dedication to tuning their craft. Recent visits report perfected buns, properly melted cheese, and that signature soft, greasy finish that defines Krystal’s sliders. They've even responded to calls for authentic sweet tea, now available onsite, underscoring their commitment to Southern dining traditions.

The experience is marked by fresh, hand-prepared orders and a welcoming staff who take pride in bringing back a regional favorite. Patrons speak highly of the friendly service—names like Kaleb and Lisa come up as standout team members who ensure orders are accurate and timely, even when the restaurant gets busy.

Krystal - Tyler stands out as a convenient touchpoint for those traveling through East Texas or locals longing for a slice of Southern culinary history. The space maintains a casual, no-frills atmosphere that fits perfectly with the quick-service style of the brand, drawing in a diverse crowd from nostalgic longtime fans to first-timers curious about this iconic slider experience.

Whether you remember Krystal from your college days or you're seeking a quick, flavorful slider fix that’s better than any frozen alternative, the Tyler location proves a welcome reentry. Look, I’m a diehard fan. These places used to rule the midnight eats in Georgia. Since moving to Texas, I really missed getting my guilty pleasure burgers. We used to have two locations that I enjoyed in DFW that closed shortly the year after. Just last week I stumbled across the Krystal website just to check if they’re even still in business and what do you know…there’s one in Tyler!! I literally jumped in my car right then and drove the 1.5hrs to get some. I’ll still give the place 4 stars just because it exists and it’s close, but we gotta fix a few things. First, the buns weren’t even close to being steamed and soggy like it should be. The cheese wasn’t even melted. There was a severe lack of onions and they weren’t cooked into the meat patty. The fries need to be changed back to the originals…those battered(?) fries are weird. And no SWEET TEA?!?! HWHAT?!? Yall gotta skip cleaning the grill for a few weeks so we can get some flavor in those burgers. Yall ain’t gonna last until that changes. I did take some back to DFW and streamed them in a dumpling steamer and they came out near perfect short of the lack of onions. Again, thanks for existing….please hang on until the grill is at least seasoned before closing down. I’ll be back in 4 weeks… Update: I drove back this past weekend, 9/30 and tried the burgers again. Asked the awesome manager to just keep my burgers under the steam dome a bit longer to get them nice and soft and greasy. Man, they came out perfect! The onions cooked into the bread and beef was absolutely ON POINT. And…they had sweet tea!! No fries this time as they still need to be changed back to the old ones. Updating my rating as this location is progressing pretty well. Staff was super nice, too. Lots of patrons there, so that’s a great sign! Going back in 4 weeks!

I see some reviews where I'm not certain that the poster knows what they're getting when they order Krystal burgers. This is not the proverbial big burger you're going to find at that one joint in town, which is why you order a few of them. I was out in East Texas recently, and news of this store's opening made me add it to my itinerary. I'm from White Castle territory, but these are more like what we had in Detroit from Top Hat, but they do scratch the itch better than that box you get in the freezer section at the supermarket. Lisa behind the counter was very nice, and when the computer misbehaved on a simple order, she outfoxed it and everybody went away happy. My burgers and tots were nice and fresh, so welcome back to Texas after having been away for so many years.

We made the drive up from Houston and Krystal did not disappoint. It was the same nostalgic flavor. It had been a over 15 years since I'd had them. IYKYK

I was thrilled to learn of this Krystal location near Tyler, since the one near me in Carrollton closed many years ago. It turned out to be well worth the short detour off I-20 on the way to Louisiana, and the burgers were just like I remembered them back in my college days in Mississippi. My son enjoyed them as well. There was a bit of a wait due a large order, but no worries! Thanks, and I hope to return on my next trip through town.

I drove 1 hour and 30 minutes from Dallas to Tyler just for Krystal's! The food was made to order, it was fresh and served hot. I ordered 2 regular sliders, 2 cheeseburgers, tator tots, and a chili dog pup. Everything was delicious and received fast, friendly service!

I dropped in on 11.13.25 & was VERY impressed! Growing up on the east coast had me eating Krystals for decades & this location delivered! Burgers were great & buns were moist. Fries were good too. VERY clean location & staff was prompt, friendly & courteous. It's a 2-hour drive from where I live in Dallas, but I will definitely stop in when I'm in the area.
